The Brief
Just Finish is a personal productivity site that uses Twitter to build momentum around the projects I need to get done. The idea behind the site was inspired by the very first page of Daniel Kahneman's book, "Thinking Fast & Slow". Kahneman is a psychologist and nobel laureate for the implications of his research in economics. In his introduction, Kahneman writes about the pressure of peers and the influence it can have on your work. "Many of us spontaneously anticipate how friends and colleagues will evaluate our choices... The expectation of intelligent gossip is a powerful motive for serious self-criticism, more powerful than New Year resolutions to improve one's decision making at work and home."
The Solution
This passage from Kahneman's book instantly rang true for the way I process pressure from peers. I'm highly motivated by the sense that someone else will see and judge the quality of my performance. I used this information about what motivates me to leverage Twitter for constructive pressure to finish more rewarding projects. The best part is they can be anything I want, motivation to finish a book, an album, or to take my health more seriously. Tweet your support and snark by visiting justfini.sh.
